We’ve all had days when we feel completely unmotivated and just embody the feeling of blah. I’m sure (if you’re like me) you’ve wondered, what can I do to escape this funk? How can I stop feeling this way and start to live my best life?
Today, I’m offering 4 things I do to live my best life.
Before you can change the direction you’re headed, you have to acknowledge where you’re at.
How would you describe how you currently feel? What led to it?
Challenge yourself to find the best description for exactly what you are feeling.
Next, accept that it’s OK to feel how you feel.
Then, decide how you want to feel. Come up with a solid phrase or sentence.
Now that you have put into words how you feel and why, accepted that it’s totally normal to feel how you feel, and you know how you want to feel – it’s time to take action!
There are numerous ways to calm your nervous system, boost your immune system and increase your physical and mental wellness. Here are my top 12 favorite things to do that always shift my mindset and help me live my best life.
This is number one for a reason. It is so freaking easy and oh so effective.
You can do it anywhere at any time. It literally changes you from the inside out!
Here is a very simple breathing practice:
Breathe at a rate of 5 full breaths per minute. You can achieve this rate by inhaling and exhaling for a count of 5.
Inhale for a count of 5.
Exhale for a count of 5.
Continue this breathing pattern for at least a few minutes.
If you have an Apple Watch, set the Breathe timer and start.
Breathing at this rate maximizes your heart rate variability (HRV), reduces stress, and, according to one 2017 study, can reduce symptoms of depression.
Call your mom. Call your sister or your brother. Text your best friend. Tell them you love them.
This will not only make you feel great (and be great for your health), it will also brighten another person’s day.
If there’s no one in your life right now you feel like saying this to, stand in front of the mirror and tell yourself!
Another simple one but so many people don’t take the time to see the sun!
Make it a point to breathe fresh air, look at a tree, feel the sun on your skin, or even go for a walk.
Some of the health benefits of spending time outside include lowering your blood pressure and reducing stress, improving your mood, improving focus, healing faster, and aging gracefully.
Our bodies are built to move around and do things. Moving for 3 minutes every hour can help you feel your best. Some of the health benefits include increased energy, a clearer mind, improved mood, higher metabolism, increased blog flow, and improved posture.
I live a sentient lifestyle so the reminder from my Oura ring and Apple Watch has helped me stick to this habit.
Such a small thing to do, with big health impacts!
